Patient-Reported Outcomes

"A patient-reported outcome (PRO) is a measurement of any aspect of a patient's health status that comes directly from the patient, without the interpretation of the patient's responses by a physician or anyone else." (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)

Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) are key measures of a person's health status or response to treatment. PROs measure things such as quality of life, pain, productivity, or fatigue, that traditional medical tests, such as blood tests, cannot measure.

PROs therefore provide key information which should be used to guide prescribing decisions and determine the right treatment for the right person at the right time. However, PROs are rarely used in treatment or coverage decisions.
